When we are using CBT to help someone to overcome OCD, health anxiety or specific phobia of vomiting, using theory A / theory B can be crucial to move from a shared understanding into active work.
Do any of these questions or statements ring true for you?
I wish I could practice an intervention before doing it in therapy for real?
It would be helpful to have a dress rehearsal so I could give my best performance
The convenience of online webinars is great but I often leave without feeling more skilled.
I have used theory A theory B but I haven’t done it for a while and I’m not sure I’m using it in the most helpful way
OCTC is pleased to announce The Practice Lab, a new way to develop skills, hone interventions, and gain expert feedback
We are pleased to be offering an opportunity to gain experiential knowledge and skills-based practice that is often missing from a webinar teaching format. The online workshop we are introducing is different, it is highly experiential, focussing on skills as well as knowledge, and run by an expert in the topic. Places for these experiential workshops will be allocated on a first come first served basis and limited to 12 participants only.
This theory A theory B workshop will equip participants with the knowledge and skills to:-
· Build a theory A theory B following from a vicious flower OCD formulation
· Practice generating less threatening, alternative and credible beliefs
· Use theory A theory B across the course of treatment
· Troubleshoot and hone your skills
Whilst we more commonly work with theory A theory B in work with OCD, this workshop is transdiagnostic and is designed to be applicable for many difficulties.
I’ve worked in the NHS with people with anxiety disorders for 20 years, using vicious flower formulations and theory A theory B across highly varied presentations of OCD, health anxiety, and specific phobia of vomiting. I look forward to working with you on the day.
